Summer of the Arts creates nearly 100 premier opportunities for musicians, Iowa Filmmakers, and other stage performers to showcase their talents throughout our season. Below is a bit of information about who we are interested in booking for each of our festivals. Please indicate on your email subject line which festival(s) you are interested in. Due to the extremely high number of submissions, only those whom we are interested in booking will be contacted. Please be advised that we only hire/show work that is family-friendly and appropriate for all ages.
The Friday Night Concert Series books Johnson County, Iowa bands only. At least one member of the band must reside in Johnson County, or, the band must be considered to be a "Johnson County" band. This consideration is at the sole discretion of the Friday Night Concert Series booking committee.
Iowa Filmmakers are encouraged to send a DVD of their short film (under 10 minutes). Musicians are also hired to perform for one hour prior to the start of the movie. Solo artists or duets are preferred.
Children’s performers from all genres of entertainment are featured on our Family Stage for our Global Village and Children’s Day activities. Strolling performers are sometimes hired. Our main stage typically features local openers and well-known national or international headliners.
As one of the nation’s top 10 jazz festivals, The Toyota-Scion of Iowa City Jazz Festival features well-known national and international acts on the main stage. Three side stages feature performers in the following areas: "Youth" (performers high school age and younger), "College" (performers associated with a college or university), and “Local" (musicians from the Iowa City Area).
